THE HIDDEN POET IN ME

Not exactly a Poet Laureate more like a Poet Lariat since some would like to hang me…

MY LIFE - DETENTION and A POET IS BORN

I hated Poetry, my High School English class, my English Teacher, and Shakespeare in that order.  All about how language and literature eveolved.  I understood that but thought it a waste of time.  I was from Brooklyn NY, we had our own language.

I was an early self-taught reader two grades advanced over my peers.  She was talking about “  Animal farm by Orwell and Lord of the Flies” , and I had read it both two years prior.   

Being a rebel I preferred reading Popular Science, Pop Mechanics, Aviation News, even Greggs Anatomy and Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien first written in 1954.  All term long she picked on me, embarrassing me in class,  I made it my endeavor to get even.    OK I was bored to death, and  then an opening —  and my devious mind intended to right the wrong and embarrassments caused by her hand. 
The final exam for the class were both oral and compositional —  I planned it with military precision and revenge.

• Part One:   For 1/3 of your marks, the end of term exam required that we had to read aloud supposedly with emotion any one page from anything Shakespeare wrote.  I called it Shakespeare Appreciation Day  — 
• Part Two:  You were to compose a poem of your choice and something you experienced.  
  

The Solution  —  I chose Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and got in trouble reading a certain passage out loud.  If you read Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar there is a page where he is being offered a sleep-over by Brutus complete with oral services to prove his loyalty.  Our teacher wasn’t fond of  “  Blow-Job Politics".  But before she could realize what had been read and was happening,  I went on and dedicated… my first ever poem to her:

I received a standing ovation and a minute of cheering for my performance.   The noise made it down the halls.  Where the Dean Of Boys was doing his hourly patrol.   Before that I never wrote a line of prose in my life, but times change and there are times you rethink, you sometimes see the challenge, epiphany time, and step up to the plate  —  Truthfully, I have to admit, today I’m finding it, poetry, somewhat  interesting, and relaxing.  

In fact I compare writing prose to crossword puzzles, you are putting thoughts and things together.  Later,  a couple years ago, reminiscing I expanded my origional poem with an update that I’m quite happy with.  I wish I could have sent this letter ( Part Two)  to my “ Engleeeesh Teacher  —  forthwith and with malice".   Not really, I suppose I should thank her  —

What A Wonderful World It Would Be!

— Adapted From The Great Louis Armstrong Hit  —  

 Russians Are Red, Ukrainians Are Yellow and Blue , 
Attacked By Vladimir Putin and Endorsed By T-RUMP Too — 
They both are Scumbags, counting we have two — 
Just killers and murderers, nothing new — 

If they were dead, what a wonderful world it would be! 

I remember green trees, red roses too, 
With no bombs falling near me or you —  
I see the blue sky clear, clouds so white, 
Birds flying again, not scared and within our sight  — 

Yes I think to myself we had a wonderful world  — 

The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night, 
And no Russian murderers bestowing fright,
The colors of the rainbow were so pretty in the sky
Before T-RUMP and Putin brought hatred 
and death on those faces going by — 

And I think to myself what a wonderful world it could be —

Taunted, tortured, scared and running 
from a man T-RUMP called cunning  —  
I see friendly nations saying what can we do
They're really saying,  “ We love you"
and when I hear, The babies crying,
 I want to watch them grow instead of dying — 

And I think to myself we had a wonderful world  — 

I’m tired of seeing the poison spread by a few — 
Putin, T-RUMP and their followers too
The answer is simple, time to stop giving in, 
when one takes out the garbage, Death is not a sin —

A man with the foolish smirk is the most imperfect shill…

But nobody wants to know him…they can see that he’s just a fool…

Who Will Fix Humpty-Trumpty ?

When Humpty Trumpty fell off the wall, all the Kings horses and all the Kings men could not put Humpty Trumpty back together again.  How Sad…[Thats due to the huge amount of clapping and applause that was heard] 

The wall on which Humpty-Trumpty was positioned… by Investigation and fired upon during the siege was intentional, and Humpty T-Rumpty went tumbling down.  It was severely damaged in the fall and, as the rhyme says…

“  All the king’s horses, and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty-Trumpty together again.”  All the Superglue had been previously used in his hairspray.  Most felt he’s useless and why bother anyway?  

Some suggested we mix ROUNDUP with his hair spray. 

He is the modern version of the Egg Head who sat on a wall during a battle. Yes,  he was a draft dodger, with fake letters from doctors, and just about everything else is fake about him.    
SEE THE BONE SPUR PRESIDENT According to acceptable rules,  we’ll just rename T-RUMP as Hump-Me I’m Dumpy due to his braggadocio attitude with women and his roving hands.
