Washington (CNN)  4/29   The Florida Department of Health intervened to keep a tally of COVID-19 deaths kept by Florida’s 22 medical examiners from being released publicly, the Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday.

The Times said the list from the medical examiners had previously been released in real time, but, after the newspaper reported that the tally was 10% higher than the health department's tally, state officials directed that the list be reviewed and potentially redacted. The pause in reporting, the Times said, has been occurring for nine days.

The Florida Department of Health said in a statement Wednesday night they are following guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that they had "spoken with counsel for Medical Examiners to explain concerns on disclosing personal identifiable information."

The report comes as Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis contemplates how Florida will begin to reopen amid the pandemic. The governor on Monday noted the central role data related to the pandemic would play in the reopening efforts, saying the return to normal would be "methodical, slow and data driven." At a White House meeting the following day he said the first steps toward reopening would likely resemble the state's current status.

"For Florida, going from where we are now to phase 1 is not a very big leap," DeSantis said. "I think we will be able to be a small step for us. We will approach it in a very measured, thoughtful, and data-driven way.”   Florida currently has more than 33,000 coronavirus cases and more than 1,200 deaths from the virus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.   Florida will start to reopen May 4, but for now Miami-Dade and two other counties won't be included

The Times said the medical examiners' list doesn't provide the names of the deceased, but does include demographic information, probable cause of death and a case summary. Dr. Stephen Nelson -- the chairman of the state Medical Examiners Commission, the group that released the list -- said state officials told him they plan to remove cause of death and case descriptions from death counts, a move he said would render the information "meaningless," according to the newspaper.

“This is no different, than any other public record we deal with," Nelson told the Times. “ t's paid for by taxpayer dollars and the taxpayers have a right to know."  CNN has reached out to the Medical Examiners Commission and DeSantis' office for comment.

A spokesperson for the health department told the Times that the department held conference calls with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which provides administrative support for the Medical Examiners Commission, about privacy concerns for those who passed away from COVID-19.  The spokesperson said the health department did not provide a legal opinion, according to the newspaper.

The Times also said a spokesperson for one of the state health department's county offices told the newspaper that the difference in figures between the two lists is because the department doesn't include in its list "some snowbirds and other seasonal residents, along with visitors who died in Florida." The medical examiners, on the other hand, count all people who died in Florida, according to the newspaper.   The spokesperson also pointed to a lag in reporting as a difference.

The Florida Department of Health said Wednesday "reporting deaths by residency is the appropriate method utilized to calculate disease rates, which allow for a more accurate analysis of disease impacts on populations through the incorporation of demographic data -- a critical aspect of public health planning."

CNN corresponded with two medical examiner offices in Florida who confirmed that medical examiners report deaths within their geographic jurisdiction and not by place of residence.  As a result, the state's county-by-county Covid-19 death toll and the county-by-county death toll reported by medical examiners will not reconcile.

The Times noted that the difference in figures has been a concern for Florida’s Democratic congressional delegation, who sent a collective letter to DeSantis earlier this month asking for a "detailed explanation of the public health justification" for the difference in tracking methods.  The lawmakers also asked the governor to work with the health department and the medical examiners to make sure COVID-19 cases are identified and reported accurately, according to the Times.

I understand this as a miscommunication and statement of how things have to be done but just another process where we have great baseball team but no one told which stadium they are due to play in.  This is how some parties do things

Our beloved Florida leader Ron “ LongNose” Desantis was bragging after attending the WhiteHouse Douchbag Convention and probable putting in his application for cabinet position or possibly running with T-RUMP as a new VP because the other VP Mike Pence is causing people to Vomit after being exposed to such ass-kissing sycophanting.

Ron’s telling the people who live here how well Florida did even though he was asleep at the switch in saying how little damage was done by all these visitors during these events that no distance, mask or closures, and processes were in place.  Is this guy dumb or just stupid?  Pat yourself on the back Ron.  But 90% of those folks were not from Florida and when they went home took back little reminders called spores to their states.

Why call him MINI-ME because T-RUMP the frickin idiot did shut down the airlines and ships from China on the West Coast but did not stop the virus from Spain, Portugal, and Italy plus entry for hose who came from Europe who had been in China,  others which generally enter New York Washington and Florida as Points of Entry and thus killed far more.

Does he think we are stupid and didn’t realize that,  and that how New York became the epicenter in the US, a simple clusterf*ck by the biggest clusterf*cker of all…DJT

Simpleton, idiots, morons in office are like a cult of idiocy, they are most comfortable when surrounded by other simpletons, idiots and morons.  My logo with Alfred E. Neumann is below.

ST PETERSBURG, FL (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been walking a tightrope for weeks during the coronavirus crisis, trying to protect both residents vulnerable to the virus and the cratering economy in a state of 21 million people.

His dilemma is a clear example of the conundrum facing the president of the US and governors nationwide: His State has  an enormous  ELDERLY HIGHLY SUSCEPTIBLE  population — a large percentage of whom are cloistered in popular areas on the East and West coasts and particularly vulnerable to the virus — and a thriving economy whose collapse since it is tourist based could result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Note: The unemployment website is a joke… someone compared it to a prostitute, more down than up.

The success or failure of the Republican governor’s decisions have had major consequences for the national economic recovery, not to mention the presidential election. No state is more central to President Donald Trump’s reelection.

When first elected many of the programs in schooling went well and he gained support from booth sides of the congress and population. Thought he was doing a good job till he contracted Crainial-Rectal Dyslexia, the dreaded T-RUMP Syndrome of Stupid decisions based on personal glory and survival and not for the people.  Basically many are calling for a one term Governor and if T-RUMP loses  (20,000 to 60,000) dead Americans are a good reason, he will fall too.

Critics say DeSantis is relying too heavily on how his actions could reflect on the president — or affect his relationship with Trump. “I don’t think Ron DeSantis makes decisions without consulting with the president, or those close to the president,” said State Rep. Anna Eskamani, a Democrat from Orlando.

Like Trump, DeSantis has been resistant to impose a statewide shutdown as New York, California and Illinois have done. Instead, the governor — in his second year in office — has pushed an incremental approach, suggesting that restrictive measures be put in place only in the hardest-hit counties. To do otherwise, he said, could cost hundreds of thousands of Floridians their jobs. Nearly a third of Florida’s counties have had no cases of COVID-19, but most are small and rural.

While DeSantis has taken a cautious approach about shutting down public spaces and private businesses, he did note that his wife, who is due to have a baby soon, hasn’t left their house since the beginning of March.

DeSantis’ most controversial decision came this week, when he issued an executive order requiring anyone coming into Florida from the greater New York area — which has seen the nation’s biggest virus spike — to self-isolate for 14 days. Florida officials have said people in the state who’ve contracted the virus recently traveled elsewhere or had contact with others who had.

The ties between Florida and New York run deep. New Yorkers are the biggest source of new Floridians. In 2018, the most recent year for which numbers are available, more than 63,000 New Yorkers migrated to the Sunshine State, close to double the residents of the next closest state, neighboring Georgia. On Tuesday, the federal government implemented the same order nationwide for those traveling from the greater New York City area.

👺  A month into an international pandemic, the leader of the nation’s third-largest state has confounded with conflicting orders.    DeSantis has made erroneous claims — like on Thursday when he suggested no one under the age of 25 has died from the coronavirus in the United States.

👺  A month into an international pandemic, the leader of the nation’s third-largest state has confounded with conflicting orders. DeSantis has made erroneous claims — like on Thursday when he suggested no one under the age of 25 has died from the coronavirus in the United States.

👺  He has pushed unproven medical cures while dismissing advice from health experts. He has shared wrong information, potentially affecting millions of people, that went uncorrected for hours.

👺  Unlike other governors, DeSantis doesn’t hold regular public briefings. He has ceded the biggest decisions, like whether to close beaches, to city and county officials, yet he hasn’t talked to many of them. Early on, he clashed with federal officials over whether Florida had community spread of the virus.

👺  He did nothing when millions came to Miami Dade for the Super Bowl  and that sent 100,000 potential spreaders back to their states.

👺  He did nothing to curb the “ Spring Break” crowds congregating on all the states beaches violating the safe distance rules and fifty of them when arrived back in New York were tested and contagious and spreading the virus. He was more than a week too late.  then the local boaters cause problem number two…

👺  Number two… He never shut down the outer-barrier islands and left them vulnerable to boaters who came by the thousands and again caused spreading of the disease as they did not observe any rules at all.  THUS Hillsboro county and Pinellas County, lots of boats are three and four in the state in number of those that are sick and dying.

👺  DeSantis’ uneven response has made him an outlier among his counterparts across the country. The approval ratings of most governors have soared during the crisis. DeSantis, one of America’s most popular governors a few months ago, has seen his support plummet. One poll found him the third-worst rated governor at handling the coronavirus in the country.

👺  The crisis has revived memories of DeSantis in the weeks following his 2018 victory in the Republican primary. Then just a congressional back-bencher carried to victory almost solely behind the endorsement of President Donald Trump, DeSantis’ wobbly campaign appeared in trouble before getting rescued by experienced political advisers.

👺  DeSantis has since pushed out those advisers, and it’s unclear who is now guiding him through this crisis. One would expect he’d rely heavily on Surgeon General Scott Rivkees, the state’s top public health official, for advice. But Rivkees, according to a DeSantis spokeswoman, didn’t weigh in either way on whether to shut down the state. DeSantis’ wife and closest confidant, Casey, recently delivered the couple’s third child.

👺  The governor has taken some statewide measures, closing parks, bars and gyms; restricting visitations to nursing homes; and limiting restaurants to takeout and delivery. He also eventually decided to close beaches in two South Florida counties. Still, he’s left many decisions to counties and cities, an approach that has garnered praise, confusion and derision.

👺  DeSantis’ directives include:  On March 9, his Department of Health issued a sweeping advisory that anybody traveling from abroad must self-isolate for 14 days. The department later clarified that it only applies to people from coronavirus-affected countries.

👺  On March 12, DeSantis said “mass gatherings” in the state were canceled, but he didn’t define how many people made up a “mass gathering.”

👺  On March 30, he announced that South Florida’s more than 6 million residents must stay at home until mid-May. The order was actually until mid-April, but it wasn’t corrected by him or his office for another three and a half hours. By then, the error had been publicized by nearly every major news outlet in the state and by DeSantis’ own Republican Party of Florida.

👺  None of his orders have been more confusing than his most important one: the April 1 directive to effectively shut down the state.  Though he lagged days behind 33 states, DeSantis’ order appeared rushed, coming soon after the White House urged 30 more days of social distancing. The directive seemed to say that senior citizens and seriously ill people couldn’t leave their homes at all. It took two days for DeSantis’ office to clarify that this wasn’t the case.

👺  Nor did the order spell out which “essential” services could remain open. Instead, officials, businesses and residents have been forced to decipher 29 pages of guidelines tacked onto the order from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Miami-Dade County.

👺  Five hours later, DeSantis quietly signed a second executive order that appeared to override restrictions local governments had put in place to halt the spread of the coronavirus. But when asked the next day about the amendment, DeSantis claimed the order did the opposite.

👺  Local officials were flummoxed. Cities have applied the orders unevenly across the state, not knowing whether to believe the words on the page or the ones coming out of the governor’s mouth.  “People are having such a hard time with this,” Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Guiltier ) One of the best sheriffs in the country)  said this week. “People are looking for a list of what is nonessential in the governor’s order. It does not exist.”

👺  Some city officials are marching ahead, no longer waiting for direction from DeSantis.  “We’re just not spending a lot of time on trying to pick that apart and decipher it,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said.

👺  Meanwhile, local leaders can’t get the governor on the phone. DeSantis has not spoken to Castor since March 2 when he arrived in Hillsborough County to announce the first coronavirus cases in Florida, which was a day after the state learned about them.

👺  DeSantis hasn’t talked to Kriseman or Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer either, they said. DeSantis is participating in regular conference calls that Vice President Mike Pence holds with governors across the country, but he hasn’t done the same with Florida mayors.

👺  Ferry said DeSantis has talked to mayors, “ Particularly in the areas of greatest impact such as South Florida.”

👺  “I do find it remarkable that the governor has not had a statewide conference call with mayors and county officials,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, a former Orlando police chief who has vast experience working with past governors during emergencies.

👺  Mayors and county leaders have instead worked across jurisdictions to coordinate their own response, relying on state help only when necessary. Tampa and its local hospitals, for instance, created a drive-thru testing site at Raymond James Stadium after it became clear DeSantis didn’t have one planned for Tampa Bay.

👺  DeSantis’ predecessor as governor,  Rick Scott, maintained frequent contact with mayors during crises like hurricanes and mass shootings. Now a US senator, Marco Rubio recently hosted a conference call with mayors of Florida’s biggest cities and others.
Rick Scott and I didn’t agree on a whole lot of things, but he always picked up the phone and called during a crisis,” Kriseman said. “And, he always said the same thing: ‘If you need anything, you have my number, don’t hesitate to use it.’
”Scott, a fellow Republican, called the lack of information coming from DeSantis’ administration “alarming” during a March 7 interview. Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, also a Republican, said March 12 on Twitter he was “disappointed” that he learned of his city’s first positive coronavirus test from the news, not the state Department of Health that DeSantis oversees.  “Transparency & Communication is the way forward for our citizens,” Curry tweeted.

👺  He is not consistent  By contrast, DeSantis’ briefings are irregular in frequency and substance. Some days, he doesn’t have them. Sometimes, the briefings are announced the minute he holds them, preventing reporters from attending or members of the public from watching.

👺  His spokeswoman’s decision to exclude a Times/Herald reporter from one briefing — and give conflicting reasons for it — led to criticism that distracted from that day’s messaging.

👺  The news conferences provide few answers about the most pressing health challenges facing the state or the tens of thousands of unemployed residents seeking help.

On Tuesday, DeSantis dedicated most of a news conference to his efforts to secure shipments of the drug hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug that T-RUMP often touts as a coronavirus remedy despite unproven findings.

That same day, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention removed from its website guidance telling doctors how to prescribe and treat COVID-19 patients with the untested drug not approved and dangerous to some patients especially with cardiac conditions.

The Governor OK’s it because of T-RUMP’s endorsement and the doctors think it is dangerous, very dangerous.  to anyone with even basic coronary problems… I’m confused, when or where did the supreme AYATOLLAH TRUMPA- BOLO get his medical degree?

During Wednesday’s briefing, images of DeSantis went viral after he wore a medical glove on one hand and touched his face with the other. Ferré declined to explain why he did this.

Editors opinion:  He is not up to the job, no balls, in Florida Redneck slang “  as useless as teats on a Boar Hog”  he is certified as a TRUMPETEER a member of the ass-kissing clone organization and vying for a WhiteHouse Position possibly replacing Mike Pence who currently has dreams of being declared the next Jesus Endorsed Presbyterian Pope.

ON ANOTHER NOTE BUT RELATED -  Florida is spending up to $110 million to back up its failed unemployment website, more asleep at the switch and not knowing whats going on

People came faster than a flock of seagulls chasing a french fry when Florida beaches began reopening Friday as the CoronaVirus pandemic raged on.  Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gave municipalities the go-ahead to reopen during a news conference Friday – if it can be done safely, while observing social distancing guidelines. A day earlier, President Donald Trump rolled out a three-phase approach for reopening the nation.

With the governor’s green light, north Florida beaches were among the first to allow people to return since being closed down by the Coronavirus pandemic.  Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced that Duval County beaches would reopen Friday afternoon with restricted hours, and could be used only for walking, biking, hiking, fishing, running, swimming, taking care of pets and surfing. Visit Florida lists beaches by county in Florida and their status: closed, restricted or otherwise.

The beaches will be open from 6 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m local time, Curry said in a video posted to Twitter. Gatherings of 50 or more people are prohibited.
