The People of Laos
This is a project I am working on for the People of Laos who have established themselves in the United States after the war in Viet Nam ended. The Laotians fought on behalf of the US forces in what was called the “Secret War” against the communist forces, the Viet Minh, Khmer Rouge, and the Pathet Lao.
Much was not and could not be publicized by the press of the actions in Laos, and Cambodia, all share common relatively fluid borders with Viet Nam but we do occasionally hear stories of the “Air America” pilots and operators and of course the CIA had something to do with it.
The bottom line was this, 50,000 Laotians paid the ultimate price either by death or being imprisoned
In the worker camps where they were worked as slaves for more than a decade after the North Vietnamese won the war in Laos, Cambodia and Viet Nam.
You are welcome to read the story of these people, and support us in our quest and a most unusual request for our House of Representatives to act upon, a simple resolution. The bill Resolution 210 is signed off and approved in the Senate.
All the Laotians, a very diverse group of peoples but commonly united in their faith in the US whom they supported during the “Secret War” are simply asking Congress to read the Resolution 210 aloud in the Congress
to acknowledge their support during the horrendous war.
It just needs the house approval from the foreign relations committee who is holding it up. It would take about eight minutes to read the proclamation.
I am familiar with the Viet Nam war era, my brother and I both served. These unique people have had to leave their country, after detention, for to stay would be very dangerous.
They fought, they paid the price, escaped and have come to the United States assimilating themselves yet retaining their culture and the unique Laotian folk way of life.
It is this incredible overarching peaceful love and respect these people have for their family, friends,
living things, their culture and their ancient traditions that impressed me the most, and
In a short period of time I have learned a lot about them and from them.
